We the campaign with our week-long #Pianodrome ‘Resonancy’ at Inverleith House, which brought together a whole Pianodrome community of exciting musicians, artists, volunteers, participants, listeners, dancers, mark-makers, noisemakers - all of whom helped us to spread the word about our excitng venture.
This is by no means the end - it is merely the beginning! We are now starting the BUILD - and in Pianodrome terms, construction commences with DEconstruction:
We invite you to come and get involved with our LIVE piano dissections! We will delve into the insides of these miraculous musical machines taking them apart piece by piece in preparation for their pheonix-like rebirth into a beautiful amphitheatre.
These live dissections are currently every Wednesday 7pm-9pm at the The Forge, Viewforth, Edinburgh. Check the website ‘Events’ page and our Facebook events for current updates and more dissection dates.
Did you miss out on the Crowdfunding campaign or would you just like EVEN more rewards from us? We still need to keep raising the cash and there are still beautiful things to be had if you donate to the project, including risograph prints, the ‘Key To Success’ (have your/a loved one’s name inscribed on a piano key in the finished Pianodrome!) and more! Head over to our website homepage at www.pianodrome.org and reap the rewards…
Now.. ONWARDS! Join us on our journey.
There is a soundtrack to our lives...
Music is known to activate multiple connections across the brain all at once, and we have each experienced how, on hearing a certain piece of music, we are suddenly transported back in time to a long forgotten event.
In this video, #Pianodrome duo Tim and Ali talk about the power of music to bring back memories – and almost everyone who has visited the Pianodrome has recounted a memory or story about a piano they used to know. What's your piano story? Are you compiling a playlist or composing the soundtrack to your life?
Quite a lot of people have been asking the same question: 'what is a Pianodrome?'
Well, here's Theo to explain all...
We've been given a room for the building of Wedge Number Two that opens onto Leith Saturday Market, so you can come and see how the build is progressing, play some pianos, and even take home a piano hammer or key as a Christmas present from us. Here's a glimpse into this Saturday's experience – see you next weekend?
Wintery sunlight glanced over the icy keys of the Baby Pianodrome as Tim and Emily set about dismantling a new consignment of old pianos to take back to the studio for the second great Pianodrome wedge. Any unusable chips and pieces were burnt offerings for the warming of fingers and the occasional huddle. Pianos have so many uses!
Come and see us tomorrow back in the cosy milieu of Custom House for music, drawing and, um... pianos! Open from 11 til 4.
We made a Pianodrome wedge! And then we filled it with lots of people. It's very beautiful, fully kitted out with hidden flaps, an exposed piano harp and glorious decorations.
The Half-Moon medicine was a total TREAT - thanks to all who took part.
Look out for our next event...
It's almost time to welcome you to the grand opening of the first Pianodrome seating wedge – less than 24 hours to go until our launch show kicks off at 8pm, Friday 1st December at Custom House, Leith, Edinburgh. It's going to be a spectacular mix of piano-wrought wonder and cabaret-style performance and music. £10 on the door and arrive in time to seat yourself upon pianos quite unlike any you've seen before!
To get you in the mood, here's a video of the wedge construction over the last week.
Another productive day in Pianodom, with serious architectural discussions about building regulations, heights, depths, widths and requirements balancing out with some friendly visitors, including precarious acrobats on a rickety ladder preparing for their performance this coming Friday. The word of the day was definitely "tonking"!
Pianodrome TV brings you this run-down of the build-up to the launch show this coming Friday at 8pm, Custom House, £10 on the door, BYOB. Watch now and stay attuned to all things wedge-shaped and piano-borne!
